Build a gathering campsite
Make a tree, a fishing spot and a temporary fire, then use them together to catch and cook a meal.

A gathering system becomes much easier to understand when the items have somewhere to go. In these guides, a tree supplies Logs, a Tinder Box turns those Logs into a fire, and a fishing spot supplies Raw Shrimp to cook on it.
Start in a copy of the supplied gameplay scene. You should already be able to move, open the inventory and interact with world objects. Run the campsite as a host: the built-in Woodcutting action uses the server-side gathering path.
What you’ll build#
- A tree that gives Logs and grows back. Create the interaction, set its reward, and connect the live tree and stump visuals.
- A fire made from a Tinder Box and Logs. Register the item combination on the player and choose the fire prefab for your running mode.
- A shoreline spot that catches Raw Shrimp. Give it one catch first, then learn how success chance and catch weights work.
- A cooked meal, or a burnt one. Connect the raw ingredient to its results and use it on the fire.
Use the supplied items first#
Search for these names in the Project window. Reusing them for the first pass lets you concentrate on wiring the objects together. You can duplicate them and change the art and balance afterward.
| Item | Asset name | Where it is used |
|---|---|---|
| Iron Axe | GatheringTool_Iron_Axe | Carry it to chop the tree. |
| Logs | LootItem_Logs | Tree reward and Firemaking input. |
| Tinder Box | LootItem_TinderBox | Used on Logs; kept after lighting. |
| Small Net | GatheringTool_Small_Net | Carry it to use the shrimp spot. |
| Raw Shrimp | CookableItem_Raw_Shrimp | Fishing reward and Cooking input. |
These definitions are under Demo/Scriptables/Loot/Items. The names shown to players can differ from the asset filenames.
Keep the connections simple#
Use the same item asset wherever a guide refers to Logs or Raw Shrimp. Two different definitions with the same display name are still different items. Keep at least one empty inventory slot while trying gathering actions; the supplied Logs and Raw Shrimp are not stackable.
All attempt and respawn intervals are simulation ticks. Four ticks means four updates from your TickManager, not four rendered frames. The time in seconds depends on your configured tick duration.
Make it your own#
Once the campsite works, duplicate a tree or fish definition into a folder such as Assets/MyGame/Items. Give copied items new, stable Item Id values, update the relevant reward and recipe references, and check that your save registry includes the new folder. Change one connection at a time so you can see what it affects.
